The Las Vegas 7's kicked off with Fiji beating Japan 41-0 in the opening fixture of the tournament. Following the conclusion of the group stages South Africa, USA, Argentina and Fiji went unbeaten in their respective pools.
The South Africans took on Australia in a tightly contested quarter-final, a late Rosco Specman try to saw the South Africans advance to the semi-finals to face host USA.
In the other quarter-finals Fiji breezed pasted Canada, 31-12, while New Zealand beat England 21-0.
The 2 semi-finals went down to the wire with South Africa needing a late Dylan Sage winner to see them advance to the final, beating USA 20-17.
Fiji trailing New Zealand 14-5 at half time and they came out firing in the 2nd half as they scored 2 unanswered tries to beat New Zealand 19-14.
The South Africans clashed with Fiji in the final which saw the current World Series leader face off against the Olympic champions.
Fiji took the lead early on thanks to a Dakuwaqa try before Cecil Afrika pulled the Blitzbokke into the lead with a converted try. The South Africans raced into a 19-5 lead heading into the final few minutes of the game before Nacuqu scored a late try that pulled Fiji within 7 points of the South Africans. Sevuloni Mocenacagi ended Fiji's hopes when he was red carded in the final moments of the game, when he tackled Werner Kok in the air.
South Africa remain top of the World Series log having won 4 out of the first 5 tournaments in the Series.
