Six Nations champions England began the defence of their title with a surprise defeat, losing 11-6 to Scotland in rain-swept conditions at Twickenham.
Duhan van der Merwe scored the only try of the match for Scotland who beat England on home soil for the first time since 1983.England coach Eddie Jones said he took the blame for the loss, citing "poor preparation", with his opposite number Gregor Townsend saying it was one of the most significant wins of his career.
