England got their November Internationals off to a wining start as they edged South Africa 12-11 in an incredibly tight encounter. South Africa opened the scoring with an early penalty, with England picking up a yellow card soon after. Despite their numerical disadvantage, England pulled level with a penalty of their own. The Springboks were dominating both territory and possession, but errors at crucial times prevented them from capitalizing. South Africa did eventually cross for the first try for an 8-3 lead, but England hit back immediately with a second penalty to trail just 8-6 at the halftime break. England drew first blood in the second half, with a penalty 10 minutes in giving them the lead for the first time in the match 9-8. The Springboks reclaimed the lead with a penalty with a little over ten minutes to play, but shortly after the hosts again hit the front with their fourth penalty making it 12-11. South Africa had a chance with 4 minutes to play to sneak in front, but Pollards penalty just shaved the upright. An intense finish followed, with some late drama as with time up on the clock England turned the ball over and booted it into touch, but the TMO was called upon to check the final tackle, which was kickable for the Springboks. However, Farrell was deemed to have made a sufficient attempt to wrap his arms, meaning no shoulder charge and the victory for England.
