Head to head | Jordie Barrett v Ollie Lawrence
- 831
Damian McKenzie landed two late penalties as New Zealand beat England 16-15 in the first Test on Saturday to make a winning start to the tenure of new coach Scott Robertson.
The All Blacks held their nerve in a brutal defensive contest in Dunedin in which both teams scored two tries, extending their winning run on home soil against England to eight matches since 2003.
We decided to have a deeper look at the two inside centers and how they played.

Player ratings
We gave Jordie Barrett a rating of 8.5 – The provider of some real ‘edge of your seat moments’, Jordie Barrett was at his near best against England. We’ve been mentally replaying that outrageous missed pass.
We gave Ollie Lawrence a 6.5 -Not the best performance the Bath man has ever produced, but there was certainly some positive elements to take away from Dunedin. Lawrence made a key turnover to halt the All Blacks in the first half, and contributed a couple of key carries to get his side over the gain-line. Despite having done his homework on Jordie Barrett and Reiko Ioane, the experienced All Blacks midfielders took Lawrence to school at times.
