Friday Night Round Up

Five matches took place on Friday night across Europe, with some good running rugby on show in spite of the freezing conditions.

Edinburgh were the top performers on the night, beating Welsh rivals the Dragons by 32 points to 13. A winning margin of 19 points only tells half the story, as the Dragons had no less than 4 men sin binned. This was a direct result of the dominance shown up front by the home side, the likes of Hamish Watson impressing.

Leinster and Ulster played out a tight affair in front of a packed RDS crowd, both sides struggling to find cohesion in attack. A solitary Sean Cronin try at the end of the first half was enough to secure the win, but for all the Leinster possession they couldn’t break down the resolute Ulster defence.

Treviso pushed Glasgow all the way at Scotsoun, leading 6-3 deep into the second half. It took a late Adam Ashe try to finally allow Glasgow edge ahead, before a last minute Duncan Weir penalty added some much needed gloss on the scoreline.

In France, Montpellier beat La Rochelle 25-13 in quite an entertaining contest, while Northampton ground out 15-3 win over Gloucester.
