The Wallabies are back to winning ways after Joe Schmidt took the helm. They beat Wales 25-16 today at the Allianz Stadium in Sydeny.
Let us look at some of the standout players from the game according to the statistics.
Tom Wright – The fullback was phenomenal today on attack and defence. He managed to make 84 metres in 7 carries, beat 4 defenders and made 1 clean break to score Australia’s third try. He also won 4 turnovers.
Aaron Wainwright – The 8th man left it all on the field today. He made an impressive 75 metres in 12 carries and beat 5 defenders, which are both the most carries and defenders beaten in the game by any player. He worked just as hard off the ball making 17 tackles and winning 1 turnover.
Archie Griffin – The prop was a defensive machine today making an impressive 26 tackles which was the highest in the game and only missing 1. He won 1 turnover too.
Jake Gordon – The scrumhalf was instrumental in the Wallabies win with his quick service and kicks from the box. Gordon made 81 passes which is almost double the number of passes his counterpart Ellis Bevan made (41). He also had a 100% tackle success rate.
Taniel Tupou - The stats might not tell the full picture but Tupou's strength and presence in the scrum put Wales scrum under pressure and helped the Wallabies win 80% of their scrums. He also contributed to Australia having a 98% ruck success rate and added a try to his name, for the cherry on top.
