Michael Cheika and the Japanese-based Green Rockets Tokatsu are reportedly hot on the trail of Scotland and Lions flyhalf Finn Russell and are prepared to strike a deal which would make the 28 year-old the world’s highest paid player, according to a report in The Rugby Paper.
Cheika was announced as the club’s Director of Rugby in May and appears keen to make the bold move of buying Russell out of his current contract with Racing 92 in France and bringing him to Japan.
The club has apparently also been in talks with Harry Mallinder (Northampton Saints) and Curwin Bosch of the Sharks, but it appears that Russell is number one on Cheika’s list.
