Ex-Wallabies star to captain Wayne Pivac’s Green Rockets

Wayne Pivac’s division two outfit NEC Green Rockets has appointed former Australian scrum-half Nick Phipps as their captain for the 2024-25 season.

Phipps, who turns 36 in January, made 72 Test appearances for the Wallabies and has been a key player since joining in 2022.

The promotion-chasers were defeated by top-flight side Black Rams Tokyo in last season’s promotion/relegation play-off.

Ex-Waratahs scrum half Phipps, who has diligently been studying Japanese, said: “I am proud to be the captain this season. It is also an honour to be the leader of such a great team.

“I will do my best to lead the team by utilising my experience and passion for rugby. I will always strive to improve every day as a player and as a person. It should be an exciting season for both the team and the crew.
