European Champions Cup Highlights: Union Bordeaux Begles Vs Ulster Rugby
- 1729
Bordeaux ran out bonus point winners today over travelling Ulster at Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas in this Champions Cup clash. Madigan opened the scoring for Bordeaux with a well taken penalty after just 4 minutes, the next 20 minutes or so were cagey until Andrew Trimble went over for an excellent try. This try was followed by another 2 Bordeaux penalties as well as 2 Ulster penalties. Late in the second half Bordeaux really began to assert their dominance as they had Ulster pinned back defending their line for lengthy periods of phase. In the closing 10 minutes Bordeaux managed to notch 3 tries, one of which a penalty try after a cynical early tackle by Ulster. Jean-Marcellin Buttin was the stand out performer for Bordeaux today causing Ulster all sorts of problems in defence and ultimately earning the man of the match award. Ulster will definitely be looking to forget this result as they progress in their European campaign whereas Bordeaux will be delighted to have kicked of their Champions Cup charge with a bonus point victory at home.
