Chris Ashton will be handed a lifeline to resurrect his England career today when he will be named in Stuart Lancaster’s World Cup training squad along with five uncapped players, including his Saracens team-mate Maro Itoje, who have been earmarked as potential bolters to make the final 31-man party.
Itoje, the 20-year-old lock or flanker who starred in England’s Under-20s Junior World Cup-winning side last June, will be joined by fellow uncapped players Henry Slade, the Exeter fly-half/centre, Wasps centre Elliot Daly and Luke Cowan-Dickie, the Exeter hooker.
