Dombrandt signs contract extension with Quins

Men’s Club Captain Alex Dombrandt will continue his journey in the Quarters after becoming the tenth senior player to sign a contract extension in recent weeks.
The destructive number eight is currently in his seventh season in South-West London, and will continue to add to his 144 appearances and astonishing strike rate of 76 tries for seasons to come.
Dombrandt joined the Quins ranks in the summer of 2018 as he burst onto the Gallagher Premiership scene, and he hasn’t looked back. The former Cardiff Met star played a pivotal role in Quins’ title-winning 2020/21 season, often captaining the side and scoring in both the semi-final and final.
An ever-present at the base of the scrum, the 27-year-old continues to be one of the Club’s top performers year on year, which has led to him becoming a hugely popular figure amongst The Stoop faithful.
Throughout his time in TW2, Dombrandt has developed into a figurehead of the group and was officially named Men’s Club Captain ahead of the current campaign.
Dombrandt’s form has earned increased recognition at international level with England in recent seasons, accumulating 20 Test Caps to date.
“I’m really happy to commit my future to Harlequins. This is a club that I love and I think we’re going places with the players we have in the squad and group of coaching staff,” said Dombrandt.
“I think we have the best fans in the world - they come rain or shine, home and away. Wherever we are in the world they’re always there supporting us. They’re all a massive part of why this club is so special.
“It’s an honour to be captain of a club I hold so close to my heart. That being said, we have a number of leaders in the group, who support me and I can lean on as we work towards our goal of winning more trophies.”
Head Coach Danny Wilson added: “Alex is a hugely important player for Harlequins. He’s been a top performer at the Club for several seasons and his on-field performances have led to him regularly representing England on the world stage.
“He’s a highly skilled rugby player on both sides of the ball and an impactful number eight, who has the ability to put us on the front-foot in key moments. His understanding of the game is continuing to grow and that’s only going to further improve his all-round ability.
“Alex was deservedly named our Men’s Club Captain ahead of this season. He leads by example and is hugely respected amongst the playing squad and coaching staff. We’re all delighted he will continue playing in the Quarters for years to come.”
The news of Dombrandt committing his future to the Club follows last week's rampant Investec Champions Cup victory over the Stormers, in which the number eight scored a hat-trick and was named Player of the Match.
