After Jack Debreczeni's monster 57 metre penalty against the Chiefs on Saturday, we look at some of the other players who are known for having a big boot.

Marcelo Bosch

It is no secret that the Argentine centre is known for splitting the posts from distance. When he is lining out for his club Saracens, Owen Farrell is first choice kicker but when the ball is near halfway that’s when it’s Bosch’s time to shine. He has splits the posts on a numerous of times from distance for Saracens and has scored some crucial kicks, such as the last minute penalty against Racing Metro in the Champions Cup quarter-final.

Leigh Halfpenny

When you have Leigh Halfpenny in your side, every penalty you win in and around your opponents half is basically three points won. The Toulon and Wales international is arguably the best place kicker in the world and can also splits the posts from 50 metres out. During the start of his career he only took penalties from distance for club and country but has developed his game that he now takes every available penalty that is on offer.

Rhys Patchell


Another player to come out of the Cardiff Blues academy who can split the posts from distance. Patchell’s most impressive effort came in a European Cup game for Cardiff Blues against Glasgow Warriors when his kick sailed over from 62 metres out.  

Elliot Daly

The Wasps centre is known for his strong running a creative spark but also is able to splits the posts from distance. Daly who is only 22, began taking penalties from distance for Wasps when he was 19. He has been successful with some from his own half which included one from 60 metres out against Bath this season.


Francois Steyn

You can’t talk about long-range penalty specialists without talking about Francois Steyn. The South African has scored many penalties from distance with most of them coming from inside his own half. Also known for splitting the posts with long range drop goals, Steyn’s most impressive effort was during his time at Racing Metro when he split the posts with a kick 66 metres out from goal.
