Taranaki duo Lachlan Boshier and Mitchell Brown have extended their contracts with the Chiefs Rugby Club.
Boshier, the talented 24 year old loose forward, has committed to the Chiefs Rugby Club for a further two years. Boshier made his Investec Super Rugby debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2016 against the Sharks two years after his provincial debut in 2014 for his home province Taranaki. He has now played 32 games for the Gallagher Chiefs and has 25 caps for Taranaki.
The former New Zealand Schools and New Zealand Under 20’s representative said it was an easy decision to extend his contract both with the Chiefs Rugby Club and Taranaki Rugby Union.
“It was an easy decision to make for me to re-sign with the Chiefs. I have really enjoyed my time here for the last couple of years and I am looking forward to continue with the team.”
The versatile loose forward and lock Brown has committed to the Chiefs Rugby Club until 2020. Brown made his Investec Super Rugby debut for the Gallagher Chiefs in 2016 against the Crusaders, after debuting in the Gallagher Chiefs jersey against Wales. The 25 year old Taranaki born forward debuted for his home province in 2012 at just eighteen years of age. He has notched up 23 Gallagher Chiefs caps and 27 games for Taranaki to date.
Brown said he was pleased to have the opportunity to continue to play for the Gallagher Chiefs.
“It was a decision that I am really happy with. I am grateful to have the opportunity and continue to learn and grow as a player within the Gallagher Chiefs environment.”
Chiefs Head Coach Colin Cooper said he was pleased to have both Boshier and Brown continue with the club beyond 2019.
“It is great to have both Lachlan and Mitch sign on with us. They are a great pair and have plenty more to offer the club. They provide healthy competition in trainings and games as they fight to earn their place in the team. By their peers they are always respected for their contribution both on and off,” said Cooper.
Chiefs Rugby Club Chief Executive Michael Collins said he was pleased to retain Boshier and he offers great competition for the other members of the team.
“Lachlan is a hugely talented openside. It is great to retain his services as he has plenty of potential and we look forward to seeing him develop over the years to come. He offers great competition for Sam Cane and Mitch Karpik, as well as offering the team flexibility with his ability to be able to slot in at blindside and number eight.”
Collins acknowledged Brown as a strong player and is excited to see what he can continue to deliver.
“It is fantastic to have Mitch recommit to the Gallagher Chiefs. He has proven himself as a tough and robust player since his debut in 2016. We are looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress this year.”
Collins finished, “It is always pleasing to retain local talent from within our Chiefs region and both of these players’ proudly represent both the Gallagher Chiefs and Taranaki.”
