Champions Cup Highlights: Northampton Saints 16-43 Leinster
- 1464
A massive win for Leinster as they take control of Pool 1 and will fancy their chances against Saints next week in Dublin. James Lowe got things going for the visitors as he finished off a cracking try after an excellent break from Jordan Larmour in a 80 metre try just two minutes into the encounter. Northampton hit back quickly, just four minutes later, through Ahsee Tuala thanks to some slick handling across the backline. Dan Biggar then put the hosts in the lead with 14 minutes gone. Leinster came back through Rhys Ruddock's try. Two Biggar penalties got Saints back in front before Porter gave Leinster the inch before the break. Cian Healy powered soon after the break and Ross Byrne marked an excellent introduction to the game with a touchline conversion and try in 60 seconds after Jonathan Sexton left the pitch with an injury. Both sides then got yellow cards, Waller for cynical play and Ringrose for dunk tackle. The game died down somewhat thereafter before the Leinster pack started to take control with Luke McGrath diving over from close range after a powerful maul in the 76th minute and Ed Byrne rounded out the scoring on the stroke of full time. Leinster claim a massive 27 point victory much like they did they last time they faced Saints at Franklin Gardens during the 2016/17 season. Leinster now have a 5 point lead over Saints in pool 1 with the two sides facing off in Dublin next weekend.
