Champions Cup Highlights: Exeter Chiefs v Northampton Saints
- 1028
The Exeter Chiefs marched on to the semi-finals of the Champions Cup with a 38-15 home win over the Northampton Saints in the quarters. Saints started the match brightly and deservedly opened the scoring with a penalty 6 minutes in. Exeter responded with two tries in ten minutes to open up a 14-3 lead. Saints would run in a late first half try to trail just 14-10 at the interval. Exeter got off to the perfect start in the second half, with their third try restoring an 11 point advantage. Ten minutes later the Chiefs were in again, crossing for their fourth try to take control of the match at 28-10. Saints hit back almost immediately with a try, but an Exeter penalty shortly after saw the hosts reclaim a three score advantage at 31-15 heading into the final quarter. Northampton tried their best to get back into the match but were kept out by some strong Exeter defence. A late Exeter try would put the cherry on the cake and cap off a sterling performance by the hosts who advanced to the final four of the Champions Cup for the very first time where they will face Toulouse.
