Cape Town 7s Preview
- 2209
The HSBC Sevens Series returns to the beautiful Western Cape this weekend as the Cape Stadium plays hosts to the Cape Town 7s once again.
The 2018 series champions the Blitzboks will go into the competition as heavy favourites as they are the home side but many believe they will have more than one point to prove as they have not won the event since 2015.
Neil Powell’s men were not at their sharpest last weekend in Dubai as they lost to Argentina in the pool stage, England in the quarter-finals of the Cup and then in then to Fiji in the plate final.

Meanwhile, New Zealand kicked off the 2018 season on a positive note as they went onto win the first tournament of the year and will have all the momentum coming to Cape Town.
The Kiwis, who are the reigning champions in Cape Town, have been drawn with Samoa, Zimbabwe and the host nation this weekend which should make for good viewing on day one.
Group Of Death:
England and Fiji are drawn together in a tough Group C that also includes France and Kenya.
Top Points Scorers:
Australia’s John Porch is the series leading points scorer at this point in time, the backline player scored six tries in Dubai and converted six kicks which puts him on 54 points.

Argentina backline star Marcos Moroni is currently the series leading try scorer with seven, which means he has 35 points on the board leading into this weekend.
One to watch: in the air or on the ground, @unionargentina's Marcos Moroni is a nightmare for defences.
