All Black Player Ratings v South Africa - 100th Test
- 6698
A late Jordie Barrett penalty secured a 19-17 victory for the All blacks in the 100th test match against the Springboks on Saturday.
Here is how we rated Ian Foster's men.
1. Joe Moody - 5
A tough day at the office for the All Black loosehead prop who was bettered in the scrums by Frans Malherbe.
2. Codie Taylor - 7
Made a wonderful break in the second minute of the game and timed his pass to perfection to send Will Jordan on his way.
A few of his lineouts were picked off by the Springbok locks and while it wasn't all his fault, some of the blame does fall at his feet.
3. Nepo Laulala - 6
Busy around the park but like Moody, Laulala had a tough game at scrum time.
4. Brodie Retallick - 7
Conceded two silly early penalties which handed the Springboks a 4 point lead after the All Blacks' first try.
Retallick grew into the game, carrying hard to the line and almost breaking through the defence on a few occasions. He linked up well too.
5. Scott Barrett - 6.5
Didn't run the lineout quite as well as Sam Whitelock has in the past as the Springboks managed to pick off a few of his calls.
Barrett was effective on attack making over 20 running metres and managed a turnover.
6. Akira Ioane - 6
His quietest game of the Championship so far. The Springboks managed to bring the big ball carrier to ground relatively easily and was shrugged off by Kwagga Smith.
7. Ethan Blackadder - 7
A late inclusion into the starting XV and Blackadder did not disappoint. He carried well into contact and was abrasive on defence. He came up with a turnover too.
8. Ardie Savea - 8
A stock standard performance from the All Black captain who performed in all facets of the game. He defended well, carried hard into contact and was a regular threat over the ball.
9. TJ Perenara - 7
A solid all round performance from Perenara as he provided Beauden Barrett with good service from the rucks. He kicked well too.
10. Beauden Barrett - 7
Had a few dangerous runs on the counter attack shifted the ball well. He made his tackles but couldn't quite break open the Springbok defence as he would have liked but his tactical kicking was on point.
11. George Bridge - 4
A forgettable game for Bridge who struggled to defuse the Springbok high balls. His one fumble resulted in the Springboks' only try of the game while he made some uncharacteristic poor reads on defence.
12. David Havili - 7
Fronted up defensively with the abrasive Damian de Allende across from him. He trucked it up into contact well and linked up nicely with Barrett and co. He made over 30 running metres.
13. Rieko Ioane - 6.5
Shifted the ball on more than he usually did but made good metres when he did take the ball to the line. Some nice defensive reads and work at the breakdown. Did have a pair of bad passes.
14. Will Jordan - 7
Ran a wonderful support line to grab the All Blacks' only try of the game. He saw little ball but was effective when it did come his way while he also made both of his attempted tackles.
15. Jordie Barrett - 8
Did well under the high ball and was tested regularly in that department. He kicked well out of hand and made good metres on the counter attack. A clutch kick to win the game was just the cherry on the top of a strong performance.
