Ulster take a 19-7 lead over the Scarlets into halftime. Ulster crossed for an early try to lead 5-0, with the Scarlets missing two kicks at goal in quick succession. Ulster were then reduced to 14 players after picking up a yellow card 16 minutes in and the Scarlets capitalized immediately with a try to hit the front 7-5. Ulster scored their second try around the half hour mark to regain the lead and would add a third score with the final play of the half for a 12 point advantage at the break.
