Leinster take a 24-12 lead over Ulster into halftime after a crazy first half. Leinster opened the scoring with an early penalty, but picked up a yellow card shortly after. Ulster capitalized with two quick tries to open up a 12-3 lead. Leinster picked up a second yellow card, but despite their numerical disadvantage hit back with a try after 25 minutes to trail 12-10. It was then Ulster's turn to pick up a yellow card, with Leinster scoring a try immediately to hit the front 17-12. It went from bad to worse for Ulster, as they received a red card on the half hour mark, allowing Leinster to cross for their third try to take a 12 point advantage into the break.
