The Reds opt for the penalty following Hore's infringement. Cooper steps up and attempts, but the ball clatters against the posts and falls fortuitously into the hands of a Red player. They continue where they left off before the infringement, hammering against the Highlander defence. Schatz is the one who finds the chink and burrows his way over the whitewash.
Reds have an eight man overlap, but Hore stifles the attack illegally, slapping the ball and killing it. Saves his side 7 points but will spend ten in the bin.
Reds respond quickly, surging into the Highlanders' twenty two. They rack up a number of phases and earn a penalty advantage. They choose to continue the threatening piece of play and are rewarded. Highlanders try to hold up the reds but set up a rolling maul. The maul tears over the line and Gill crashes down for the try,
More indiscipline from the Reds leads to the try. Highlander's break into the Red's half, and start to build the phases. Jason Emery and Popoali'i prominent in the attack. They find themselves 10 metres out when Reds concede an offside penalty. Aaron Smith takes it quickly, delivering it to Dixon at pace who crashes through an unsuspecting defence and touches down.
Reds concede their fourth penalty in fifteen minutes, flopping over the top of a ruck. Slade makes no mistakes with the kick, and the Highlanders narrow the gap to one.
Reds pick up another penalty soon after the kick off. Highlanders not rolling away. Cooper attempts from 45 metres. No luck however, and the home team clear their lines.
Highlanders apply pressure in the Reds twenty two. However the Reds defence rushes up prematurely, and are pinged for offside. Slade guides the resulting penalty through the uprights.
The game kicks off at a frenetic pace. Both teams given the opportunity to attack, but it's the reds who draw first blood. Cooper sparks a move down the right hand touch line. He sees space and slips through. The ensuing offload is slapped backwards by a chasing Highlander player and hits the ground, five metres out. James Hansen scoops it up and scrambles over for an early try.
Welcome everyone, to our coverage of the Super 15 Round 7 opener. The Reds visit Dunedin off the back of an impressive win against the Bulls last week. Interestingly, the Reds have never won a S15 game here in Dunedin, but the Highlanders' dismal form this season may bring an end to the record. Highlanders are the shock of this year's Super 15. They are a team full of promise, with no shortage of fire-power, but sitting bottom of the table. That said, they'll put the visitors to the test. Should be an exciting game. Enjoy!
