Leinster take a 20-14 lead over the Exeter Chiefs into halftime. Exeter got off to the perfect start, with a try just two minutes in to lead 7-0. The hosts dream start continued with a second try inside the opening ten minutes to open up a 14-0 advantage. Leinster settled into the match and got on the board with a try after 17 minutes. Ten minutes later Leinster had their second score to even things up at 14-14 after around half an hour of play. Leinster had the momentum and managed to keep the scoreboard ticking over, slotting two penalties inside the final ten minutes to hold a six point lead at the break.
