England went unbeaten in their pool with wins over Scotland, Australia and Italy to secure the number one seed in the semi-finals.
South Africa won two of three pool matches, going down to Argentina to finish as runners up in their pool. A bonus point win over France secured them the best second placed finish and a spot in the semi-finals.
England defeated South Africa 28-20 in the semi-finals in the 2015 event and also won a thrilling final against them 21-20 in 2014.
