The Chiefs enjoy a good period of possession, with Vant Leven starting the move with a nice offload to allow Cruden into space. Eventually the Crusaders are penalised for hands in the ruck, underneath the posts, giving Cruden an easy chance to narrow the gap between the two sides. 55 minutes gone, the Crusaders lead 19-18.
The Crusaders start the second half well, and are rewarded when Ben Tameifuna hits Crotty late, conceding a penalty. Taylor continues his perfect record from the tee to give his side a one point lead, 46 minutes gone.
Marshall scythes through a gap off the back of the scrum to give the Crusaders good territory. After a number of phases the Chiefs are penalised for side entry, giving Taylor a chance to close the gap between the two sides. He makes no mistakes, splitting the posts with his kick.
Another try for the Chiefs, and again its courtesy of a block down as Craig Clarke charges down Marshall on his own line to score his sides second try of the night. Cruden cant convert from a tight angle, leaving the score 15-10 with 30 minutes gone.
The Chiefs turn around their woes at the scrum, earning a penalty which Cruden slots to draw the scores level after 25 minutes.
The Crusaders show ambition, kicking a kickable to touch. From the lineout the ball is spread wide until eventually Todd barrels over from close range. Taylor adds the extras to regain the lead for his side, 20 minutes gone.
Cruden nicks the first try if the game, charging down his opposite number Carter to score under the posts. He converts his own score to give his side a 7 points to three lead.
10 minutes gone, the game is off to a disjointed start but its the Crusaders who have enjoyed the best of it, coming close to scoring only for a knock on from Ellis at the base of the scrum, allowing Cruden clear his lines.
At the first scrum of the day Ben Tameifuna is guilty of slipping his bind, and concedes a penalty. Taylor steps up to drill the ball through the middle of the posts, and give his side the early lead.
