A Toulouse legend, Noves made his debut for the 1st team in 1975 and made a total of 275 appearances in 13 years as a player, winning 2 French Championships.
After retiring in 1988, he was appointed as an attack coach and was part of the coaching team that won the French Championship in 1989.
After a 3 year spell away from the club, he returned as head coach in 1993. Novès had an extremely successful period as Toulouse coach, winning 9 French Championships and 4 Heineken Cups in his 22 year stint as head coach.
His 1996 campaign is fondly remembered as Toulouse dominated both domestically and in Europe as they claimed a famous double.
Novès' decided to leave his role in 2015, after being offered the French job, replacing Philippe Saint-André after the 2015 Rugby World Cup. His final game ended in defeat in the Top 14 quarter finals against Clermont.
He had a mixed start as head coach, losing 3 games but defeated Ireland in the 2016 6 Nations for the 1st time since 2011.
