Before his coaching career, Young earned 51 caps for the Wales international team (1987-2001), which is a record number for a prop.
He has also made appearances for British Lions in three separate decades, the only player to do so.
Young then ventured into coaching with the Cardiff Blues in 2002, leading the team to multiple victories including the EDF Energy Cup title in 2009 defeating Gloucester.
The Welsh man joined Wasps as Director of Rugby ahead of the 2011/12 season, where he took the reins of a side struck by injuries and retirements.
His leadership at Wasps marked his presence the following season, finishing 8th after a spell in the top four mid-way through the campaign.
In his third year in charge Young resulted in improved performances and a seventh placed finish in 2013/14.
Wasps reached the Premiership final in 2017, losing in extra-time defeat to Exeter. The following season they made it to the semi-finals.
But in the 2018/19 season they finished eighth, with the decline seeing him getting the boot after 11 years at the Premiership club.
Having returned to the helm at the Arms Park on an interim basis following the departure of John Mulvihill in January, Young has guided the club to four wins from seven matches.
In April 2021, Cardiff Blues confirmed that Dai Young signed a long-term contract to remain the club’s director of rugby.
