Born in Worcester Neil Maritz attended the famous Paarl Boys' High School.
Maritz first taste of provincial rugby came when he finished school and joined the Sharks Academy.
He represented the Sharks U19 side before making his first-class debut in the 2014 Vodacom Cup.
He continued to represent the side in the Vodacom Cup and its replacement ( Currie Cup qualification series).
In 2016 he made his Currie Cup debut against the Western Province.
At the completion of the Currie Cup Maritz was named in the Sharks 2017 Super Rugby squad.
He failed to break into the Sharks 23 and was subsequently loaned out to the Southern Kings.
He signed a deal to join the Pumas at the completion of Super Rugby.
